about

Originally released by Invisible City Records in April 2020

With thanks to Craig Johnson

'On 2018's 'Paper Wasps' UK percussionist Matthew Atkins and bassist Peter Marsh struck a dark, scurrying collaborative tone: spectral wash and crackle, perverse rustling, small thumps in the night. Their sound was the dark ambient equivalent of examining the underside of a large garden stone; a randomness ruled. 'Plume' tightens things up, upgrading to gingerly arrayed strings of clicks, whines and power tool whirrs; at times this Gateshead [sic] duo seem to be manipulating a network of rubber bands and tongue depressors. A Starry-eyed synth drone seeps into 'Fissure', drowning out its sampled narration.
